Situated on the volcanic island of Keirunga, Kotahi boasts an interesting mix of a hunter-gatherer lifestyle and sophisticated technology and construction. Solid brick and concrete buildings line the paved streets, along which parties of dwarven hunters parade their latest kills as they take them to Whare Nui to share with anyone who's hungry. Impressive from the outside, their great earthen hall descends into a massive arena used for various sporting events and announcements.

Despite their countless tattoos and relatively savage appearance, the dwarves of Teirunga possess strong values of courtesy and hospitality. They treat visitors as family, bringing them into their homes and breaking bread with them. They aren't naive, however. Attempts to take advantage of them or hostility are met with the full fury of this warrior race.
As part of their coming of age, Teirunga dwarves undergo grueling rites of passage. First, they must capture a fry of the magma-dwelling Kaikau Ahi fish. After that, they endure even more grueling heat as they carry their catch around the rim of the active volcano Puaa Nui. Finally, after returning to the village, the dwarves must undertake a sailing journey to the western continents and return with proof of their journey; typically a trinket or a letter of welcome from the elder of one of the villages near the shore.
